The leader of the Democratic National Alliance, Arinthia Komolafe, and 10 members of her team were detained at Central Police Station today. The arrests came after the party’s chairman, Omar Smith, was contacted by police who requested that he and Komalafe, along with other members, make themselves available for questions surrounding possible violations during a March 3rd demonstration held by the party.
After five hours in police custody, the group was allowed to leave without being charged. Commisioner of Police Paul Rolle held a press conference to confirm an ongoing investigation, saying he will have the final word on whether the group is brought before the courts. The Commissioner insisted that the arrests were not political.
