Introducing Da Muckraker…

Today in da muck:

There’s no telling how many scandals this new minister can take, but she sure is pushing it to the limit. Employees at the minister’s office are upset that she has failed to act after a government worker with a long history of unruly behaviour spit at a coworker. The man – who supposedly works as an investigator – believes he is above the law because he is a longtime PLP supporter. Other workers in the ministry want him gone since he is obviously disrespectful and unhinged. So far, the minister has failed to launch an investigation or fire the employee. Will she try to sweep the problem under the rug like her workers swept away homes on a storm-damaged family island?

Spitting workers isn’t the only problem a new minister has to deal with. The Muckraker has learned that disgruntled veteran contractors are applying pressure on senior PLPs to fire the new minister. The veterans are upset an American and a Dominican have been given senior roles in the ministry without proper certification. On top of that, many Family-Island Bahamians are homeless after workers demolished their shelters under the minister’s watch. New low-cost homes are supposed to be built, but since most have reportedly been promised to the party’s new Haitian supporters, Bahamians probably shouldn’t hold their breaths.

A high-profile FNM was recently spotted hanging out with his not-so-secret lover out West. The married politician is well known for his dalliances. When the FNM was in power, he famously set up girlfriends and sweethearts in plumb government jobs even though very few were competent enough to hold those positions. Now that he has more time on his hands, he’s back to doing what he loves best; chasing skirts!

A particular foreigner whose daughter is married to a high-ranking PLP is having a blast under the New Day government. The Muckraker has learned that this foreigner has his eyes on some big bucks now that he is in charge of a world-famous cay that was once the hideout for a top drug cartel member. The foreigner’s Middle-Eastern investors are counting on him to help change the boating laws so they can take over Family Island marinas and develop new ones. Seeing as his son-in-law is in the perfect position in the New Day government to make it happen, we suspect Bahamians will get the short end of the stick if the son-in-law gets his way.

Speaking of boating, a former disgraced cabinet minister has managed to monopolize the tour-boat excursion industry at major hotels. The disgraced minister was too poisonous to run in the last election, but he’s trying to make a comeback from his begging days and now wants to call all the shots! The former minister has a top government job and is supposed to deliver for the people. But instead, he has teamed up with senior Bahamian hotel managers to force tourists to use *only* his brand. The greedy group also plans to add a luxury livery service along with buses to transport tourists from the airport. The disgraced former minister and his partners are on a mission to crush everyone else in the business for their gain. They want to cut off other Bahamians who have been in the industry for years, even though it may cost hundreds of Bahamians their jobs.
