The Future: Top 14 Young Politicians To Watch

The future is here. Well, almost. Although senior, seasoned politicos still occupy the top echelons of power, there is a new breed of young politicians making their mark on the country and, undoubtedly, the next general election.

Here, we countdown the top 14 frontline politicians under 50 we are keeping our eyes on.

14. Cara Ellis

Who is she? Cara is the Bahamian Evolution/ Coalition of Independents candidate for Elizabeth. Her major political accomplishment so far is being one of the co-founders of the Bahamian Evolution party.

13. Charlotte Green

Who is she? Charlotte is the Bahamian Evolution/ Coalition of Independents candidate for St. Barnabas. Her major political accomplishment so far is being the other co-founder of the Bahamian Evolution party.

12. Jamahl Strachan

Who is he? Jamahl served as a diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His major political accomplishment so far is nabbing the Progressive Liberal Party nomination for Nassau Village.

11. Zane Lightbourne

Who is he? Zane is a teacher, formerly serving as a Vice-Principal with the Ministry of Education. His major political accomplishment so far is being ratified as the Progressive Liberal Party candidate for Yamacraw.

10. Don Saunders

Who is he? Don Saunders is an attorney, and the current representative for the Tall Pines constituency. His major political accomplishment so far is being named the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly.

9. Adrian Gibson

Who is he? Adrian is the current member of parliament representing Long Island. His major political accomplishment so far is beating Official Opposition Leader and incumbent candidate Loretta Butler-Turner during the last election, and being selected as the chairman of the water and sewerage corporation.

8. Leslia Brice

Who is she? Leslia is a businesswoman and former beauty queen. She is also the daughter of former cabinet minister Leslie Miller. Her major political accomplishment so far is being ratified by the PLP to contest the Sea Breeze constituency

7. Jomo Campbell

Who is he? Jomo is an attorney-at-law. His major political accomplishment is being ratified by the PLP for the hotly contested Centreville seat.

6. Shanendon Cartwright

Who is he? Shanendon is a Marketing Manager and the current FNM incumbent in St. Barnabas. His major political accomplishment so far is being selected as The Bahamas Parks and Beaches Authority chairman.

5. JoBeth Coleby-Davis

Who is she? JoBeth is an attorney who will contest the Elizabeth seat under the PLP banner. Her major political accomplishment so far is being selected as a Senator for her party.

4. Travis Robinson

Who is he? Travis is the current FNM incumbent in the Bain and Grants Town constituency. His major political accomplishment so far is being the youngest ever elected representative in the House of Assembly. Travis has also been hired, then fired, then re-hired as the Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism.

3. Pakesia Parker-Edgecombe

Who is she? Pakesia is a journalist and the current FNM MP for West End and Bimini. Her major political accomplishment so far is being the only current female cabinet minister in the Minnis Administration.

2. Lincoln Bain

Who is he? Lincoln is an activist and the Director of the Bahamian Evolution party. His major political accomplishment so far is becoming the presumptive leader of the Coalition of Independents, and sparking further national conversations around natural resources. He is running in the Pinewood constituency in the next election.

1. Arinthia Komolafe

Who is she? Arinthia is an attorney, banker, and head of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA). Her major political accomplishment so far is being the first female to be elected leader of a major political party. She will contest the Carmichael seat in the next election.
